Quilts for Perth

I have made 2 quilts to take to Perth and I finally thought to take photos at the beach. We have only been back from the states and living a few minutes walk from the beach for 6 years. I am quick!!

This quilt is based on a kit my friend bought at the Sydney Quilt show from fifsifabricology.  I used a bright sun layer cake. This will be for a friend I started primary school with. She is the first of our school year to turn 50. We have been friends for 44 years!

This is my City Quilts made years ago and finally finished as an engagement present for my niece. I actually pieced  a back for this one. I love this and made a  mini table runner for me so I could give it away.

New Book

I could not resist this colouring book. I think it has some designs which are perfect for stitching. Isn't this one great!

A Christmas Runner

I finished the dog runner in plenty of time for Christmas. A friend made me a candle in a beaker. We work in the science department of a high school.

Some Christmas Sewing

I bought the cutest panel at the quilt show in Brisbane and have made a runner which I hope to quilt soon. I still have plenty of dogs left for other projects, now I need to find the time.

A Christmas Present

I finally started my Charley Harper quilt. I have been a bit scared to start this as I love the fabric so much I was worried I would stuff it up and waste the fabric.

I used a tutorial by Hyacinth Quilt Design but I made the blocks a little bigger so I could cut larger fussy cut squares. This design really makes me think instead of mindlessly following instructions. I think I prefer mindlessly following instructions.

I finished the batman cushion I am was making for my son.
I still have quite a bit of this fabric left from the quilt I made 2 years ago, so I can see more batman projects in the future.

Bright Sun

I finished another quilt top! Work has been very quiet, a little too quiet but I think that will change soon. This was made with a layer cake of Bright sun and silver background. One good thing about living in Australia is we get some fabric early. I got the idea for this design from a kit a friend bought from Fifis Fabricology. Their pattern used 2 different half square triangles to make the flying geese but had some plain background interspersed which I liked ( and copied). I am making a mini that is similar with half square triangles.

Jenn of A Quarter Inch from the Edge
Anne of Batiks by the Bay

Tracy of Tracy’s Bits N Pieces

I made cushions for my twin nieces. One loves Pink and the other Purple.

How cute are these cushions. I love them. The colours don't look quite right especially the purple one but they are a very cute pair.

I love the binding I found at spotlight and I am thinking I should make a Hazel hedgehog with it!!!

Make sure you check out all the stops on the blog hop. Link here to post with all participants. Also check out the latest patterns coming soon at Sew Fresh Quilts, Jungle Friends and Forest Friends.

Preppy the Whale

I am in love with animal quilts right now and thanks to the internet, I downloaded and made this mini (still to be quilted) on the weekend.
It is Preppy the Whale by Elizabeth Hartman from Oh Fransson. This is another fantastic pattern although I questioned my colour choices when putting it together. I like the colours but think Batiks and brighter fabrics would look great, Might have to make a big one!!!

To the Quilter

This would have to be the fastest I have ever finished a quilt. The top is done and of to Terrace quilting to be quilted. The ladies in this shop are lovely and do an amazing job of quilting. It is a gorgeous quilt and I cant wait to get it back. The quilt  is a kit from Quintessential Quilts in Perth.

There was another kit at Quintessential quilts I really liked but I just bought the pattern this time. The proportions of the block are great for fabrics to shine! I tested it with a batman cushion and it is great.

1 hour basket

This pattern is everywhere on the internet and made by everyone. I can see why. It is a great pattern, very easy and a good size. I have some pretty tea towels which I am going to try using to make the next one for a more sturdy basket.

What a weekend

My friends daughter recently moved to Brisbane so my friend and I decided to visit her last weekend. There just happened to be a quilt show on!!!! We had a great girly weekend and this is my fabric purchases. I saw some great Zombie fabric but decided not to buy it and now I wish I did. I have soooo much fabric and didn't know what I would do with it so I didn't buy it. Not to worry, we did plenty of shopping for other things and I feel like I bought heaps!!! Also now I have something to look for at the next quilt show. I really think we should make this trip to Brisbane an annual thing. The flight was only just over an hour compared to 3 hour drive to Sydney and when you are finished at the show, there are Southbank markets and a stroll over the bridge to the CBD. Oh boy did we cover some miles.

I have made all the blocks for this so I am going to start sewing it together. I need to finish something so I can feel less guilty about my purchases ( and go buy Zombie fabric).

Dog Gone update

I finished Karas pink dog. Now all I need is to turn them into cushions. It is a cloudy day here so the colours are not exactly right. I love the dogs in the bright solids. The pattern is dog number 5 in the Dog gone Cute blog hop at Sew Fresh Quilts.

This is the first dog I made. I prefer the brighter colours and the across quilting to the up and down. But sill a cute puppy!

Bella's Dog

Bella loves purple and Kara loves pink so I am making them both cushions using the large dog from sew fresh quilts, dog gone cute quilt along. I am making them both the same dog in different colours as they like "the same but different". This is dog number 5 of the quiltalong and he is soooo cute.

I bought a quilt kit. I haven't bought a kit for years but when I was in Perth I could not resist this!

It is gorgeous and very different from my usual style and I love it!!!!! I bought it from a great quilt shop close to my parents house called Quintessential Quilts.

Another tea pot cosy

I made another tea cosy using the tutorial from spoonful of sugar. I made this slightly larger and it fits Hubbys tea pot perfectly. I love this fabric and have had it for years waiting for the perfect project!

For Gran

Now I have given this to my mum, I can post about it.I made this tea cosy using a tutorial from a Spoonful of sugar.

I also made a table runner based on one in the book, Simply Modern Christmas by Cindy Lammon of Hyacinth Quilts. i simplified it slightly by using one fabric for the strips at the sides similar to one Cindy made and blogged about previously. I met Cindy when I lived in St Charles and she is a lovely lady. Her quilts are beautiful and her blog worth reading!

Bear Paw

Some more Kate Spain fabric! This is a bear paw version from the Missouri Quilt Co. The tutorial is here. I want to make sooo many of their quilts. I made the baby bear version but I sashed between the blocks.

The backing was going to be a skirt!

Think Big cushion

I bought a copy of the Think Big book by Amy Ellis, who blogs at Amy's Creative Side, a while ago and finally finished this cushion. The book is great. I love that it has a table with what you need for 1 block so you can make any size project. I have also made a table runner from the book which is waiting to be quilted. The fabric in the cushion is the same as my zebra!

Modern Maples place mat

I couldn't resist making more modern maples blocks. I made one place mat but will make more  to match it and this runner occasionally when I feel like making this block.

Dog Gone Cute Quilt Along

Lorna from sew fresh quilts is having a quilt along which is the cutest ever. I cant resist. I have to be involved in this quiltalong. I know there will be 2 weeks in September when I wont be sewing but I think I can still get something done by October. I just love this little block! Click on the button at the side to look!

12 August 2015

???Zebra

I decided to go a little wild with the Zebra. I love him but general consensus is that he looks more like a donkey. I think I will add thin borders and turn him into a mini, The block is a freebie from sew fresh quilts. She is doing a quiltalong next month of dog gone quilt which looks great. I wont be able to do it but might make the quilt or maybe a pillow for my nieces.

Pandamonium quilted

I wasn't sure how to quilt this so I looked at quilts made by Lorna of Sew Fresh Quilts. I love her quilts and she does a lot of wavy line quilting so that's what I did. I love how it turned out. I am now making a Zebra block. You should see the fabric I am using!

02 August 2015

A pillow case

I made this pillow case for a friends daughter. I love how easy and quick this is. I have made one before but used the tutorial by the crafty gemini as I couldn't remember exactly what to do. I love how this pattern isn't directional so the pillowcase looks good on its side. I made a really cute wombat one which I love but the wombats are sideways when the pillow is the right way

Finally finished

I finally finished this quilt and gave it to a friend. I kept with the straight line quilting I know I can do and backed it with a beautiful batik. The quilt pattern is a free moda bakeshop pattern by Melissa Corey, hugs and kisses by the park.

27 July 2015

some stash

Another month of The Aussie Kona club and what I bought at the Sydney quilt show.  I haven't made anything with them yet but I will, eventually.
I don't know why but we get fabrics early here in Aus and I was able to get a layer cake of Bright Sun from patchwork plus, an online shop here. It is gorgeous. I am going to cut the squares in half and make flying geese and then figure out the quilt design.

Pandamonium

The fat quarter shop recently featured a free pattern which I could not resist. I put a thinner border on so it is slightly smaller. Once quilted I will hang it on my wall. I am getting quite a collection on minis on the wall!
